Fishing In Our Area....

We don’t call this southern Ontario’s premier fly fishing destination for nothing. We are located in the middle of many great trout rivers and we can drive to 5 of them in less then 15 minutes.

Anglers Pro Shop offers guided trips to 7 of Southern Ontario’s best and scenic wild Trout and Steelhead rivers. Most of these rivers are heavily populated with wild resident Brown Trout, Brook Trout and have good runs of wild Steelhead and Salmon.

Come see us at the store for advice and our custom Fishing Access maps.

The Credit River - Known as the “ Crown Jewel of Southern Ontario”, this pristine river offers great wild brook trout and wild brown trout fishing in the headwaters and has excellent Steelhead and Salmon fishing in the lower sections. The Credit River is only 5 minutes from Anglers Pro Shop and is my home river. I have over 25 years of fishing experience on this river and I fish it almost every day. I have had many days of multiple brown trout over 20” and up to 26”. The entire upper section and all tributaries of the Credit River upstream of Old Base Line in the town of Inglewood is now under “Special Regulations” **Single barbless hook only, no organic bait and 100% catch and release on ALL trout species. This river offers everything from fast pocket water to slow meandering runs and pools, It has lots of little brown trout plus large brown trout and you may even have days of 50 or more brook trout in the brook trout only sections. It also has a small population of resident rainbow trout up to 19”. Although Atlantic Salmon are out of season all year long the introduction of thousands of stocked Atlantic Salmon annually means you could have incidental catches of many little guys up to 12” & you may even get lucky and get an adult salmon over 5lbs. The Credit is our specialty and is a fantastic river for a guided walk and wade trip or a fly fishing lesson. The Steelhead and salmon fishing in the lower sections below Georgetown can be some of the best in Ontario and guided trips in the fall can product large numbers of fresh hard fighting fish.

Grand River - This river is about 11 minutes from the shop in Orangeville. Of the 5 rivers I guide this is the most popular river for fly anglers. The Grand River is said to be the best tail-water brown trout fishery in Eastern North America and is arguably the most popular fly fishing destination in Ontario. Regardless of the fishing pressure this river has lots of big, scrappy and numerous brown trout over 14” and browns in the 25” to 30” size are caught or seen every season. 10 to 50 Brown Trout a day is not uncommon once you figure them out. This river has over 30 km of accessible brown trout water to fish. Fishing is excellent between Belwood lake and Inverhaugh.  **This upper Brown Trout section is a walk & wade guiding only. Special regulations apply on most of the trout water sections. - No Kill on all trout, Single Barbless Hook only and No organic bait permitted. - we have maps available for access points and to show the special regulations sections.

Nottawasaga River & Tributaries - The “Notty” as the locals call it is possibly the most productive Wild Steelhead river flowing into Georgian Bay and offers great Steelhead fishing from October to June providing the river conditions are good. Our Shop is 8 minutes from the Upper Nottawasaga river and this has become one of our favorite local hotspots. Unfortunately this Upper section is almost 100 percent private property but I guide on some private lands with permission and have access to nearly un-touched trout waters. Take a drift boat trip through nearly un-fished sections of river or walk and wade the lower river during prime runs of Steelhead.

Beaver & Bighead Rivers - 2 great Steelhead rivers when the river conditions are good. Drift or wade these river for lots of big wild Steelhead, large numbers or Brook trout, Browns and Rainbow trout. Up to 30 Steelhead a day on a fly rod is possible when the runs are at there peak. We offer drift boat trips for resident brown trout all summer long on the Beaver River.

Humber River - This river is slowly gaining in popularity due to successful Brown Trout stocking efforts by the MNR and local groups. The upper Humber has wild brook trout populations and some nice brown trout mixed in. The river is 10 minutes east of our shop and has lots of good access points which we list on our fishing access maps. Wild and stocked Brown trout can be caught between highway 9 and the town of Bolton. Trout may be kept in this river but we strongly urge you to release your trout to help grow this fishery to it’s full potential.

Saugeen River - The Saugeen River is less then an hours drive and is another big river that offers wild Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Rainbow trout and Steelhead fishing. In my opinion this river and some of it’s tributaries are under fished due to large portions of private property. The Saugeen and some of it’s many tributaries have the potential for huge wild resident Brown Trout, big Brook Trout and big Steelhead. Most fish in this river are wild but recent stocking in the Walkerton area has increased the brown trout populations in this area.  Catching up to 20 Brown trout is very possible and 20” to 26” wild browns are caught annually. Drifting the limited access water sections of the upper Saugeen in a comfortable stand up pontoon drift boat gives you the opportunity to see some scenic water and a chance at some of the biggest brown trout in the river.

Island Lake - Orangeville Reservoir - Island Lake is right in town and has a very good population of Largemouth bass with frequent reports of bass up to 7lbs. Bass is 100% catch a release now. The lake is loaded with pike up to 13lbs but 2 to 3 lbs is most common. Crappie and Perch and catfish are also common. Boat rentals are available and no gas motors are permitted.

4 Seasons of Guiding & Fishing

January to May 15th. Steelhead are in rivers and if the river is ice free we’re catching fish somewhere. If you are interested in a guided trip in January or February call for fishing conditions and times. March starts to heat up with big runs of fresh spring run steelhead and double digit steelhead days are possible if you can time the runs. April can be amazing fishing for steelhead and on the last Saturday of the Month the season opens and the fish are everywhere. Avoid the crowds and book a drift boat trip in some private access waters and increase your chances of steelhead.

May 1st to September 30th. Some Steelhead are still in the rivers in May but by the end of May we start focusing Brown Trout and Brook Trout that are feeding heavily on the major insect hatches. Dry fly fishing can be awesome this time of year. I still say mid may to mid June can’t be beat for the biggest Browns on a dry fly. July and August are still good months for streamer and grasshopper fishing for Browns and Brookies in the colder headwater sections.

September to October 15th is Salmon time. Catch up to 50 King Salmon a day ranging from 10 to 40lbs. Coho can also be caught but not as regularly. This is all about timing the runs and being on the water when the fish are just starting their run. Big Brown trout are also available and Steelhead are just starting to make an appearance in some rivers. Salmon fishing can be hit or miss so this may be a time to book last minute or we can call you when the runs start moving in, call now and I’ll put you on the list, first come first serve.

October to December is prime Wild Steelhead time. 30 fish days are possible with wild Steehead between 5 and 15lbs. Ontario has some of the best wild Steelhead rivers in Canada and these are the rivers I guide. The best Steelheading of the year starts in October and peaks in November. December can continue to be hot depending on the weather and the river conditions. November books up fast so don’t miss the hot fishing of November & book early to ensure your time on the water,

Call or e-mail Graham for details and prices.
